Expectations are rising for investors to assess a company’s impact on society and the environment, and particularly in the mining industry. Articulating what society can reasonably expect from mining companies, the Responsible Mining Index (RMI) Framework 2020 provides a useful resource for investors covering the spectrum of Economic Development, Business Conduct, Lifecycle Management, Community Wellbeing, Working Conditions and Environmental Responsibility. The Responsible Mining Foundation behind the RMI is independent of the mining industry; it is funded by both The Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs of Switzerland.

Join us for a virtual high-level panel discussion exploring the connection between the green energy transition and mining. It picks up on a conversation held at the Dutch Residence in London in May 2019. Whilst the objective of that first event was to present the RMI Framework to investors based in the UK, this event will seek to deepen the debate thematically. The key proposition of the discussion is that the green energy transition will require vast amounts of minerals (copper, rare earths etc.) and hence more mining in the future – and that there is an imperative to ensure that mining operations are improved and made more responsible in the future.
